Model of an 18th century French-Canadian Militiaman at Château Ramezay, Montreal – From the curators' comments: “All able-bodied men of New France between the ages of 16 and 60 were subject to the King's service when called upon by the captain of the parish's company. Our friend must leave with his comrades-in-arms to raid the British colonies. He must supply his own clothing, weapons, and gun. Unlike the [regular] soldiers of the Compagnies franches de la Marine, he will not be paid.”
